Monday Music : Take On Me

Some of you already know that I love guitar music.  So it's not surprising that I have subscribed to Sungha Jung's You Tube channel.  Every time he uploads a new video, I get an email notification.  This video is not his latest, but among the recent ones uploaded within the last couple of months.  I would say he started it out well with the tapping intro.  I'd say it's a difficult piece to execute on just one acoustic guitar.  You know the songs from the eighties, they use lots of those synthesizers that are hard to mimic on conventional instruments.  Listening to Sungha Jung's version of the song takes some getting used to, at least for me.  I've been so accustomed to the original version.  Anyway, here is the once cute little boy who's now all grown up.

My Fave Song From Tyrone Wells

This is one of my favorites from Tyrone Wells.  Oh nothing...just chilling to some cool rock music....and yeah, maybe wondering where YOU are.  :-)

Cool huh? I like the simple sound of his electric guitar....would be nice on acoustic guitar as well.

Here are the lyrics, in case you want to sing along.  I suppose it's for anyone who's still wondering where his or her special someone is.

Will you like to watch the sunrise?
Will you have blue or brown eyes?
What are the dreams you long to share
I hope you like Stevey Wonder
Are you afraid of thunder?
I close my eyes and say a prayer you're out there somewhere

I've been waiting all of my life for you

I've been wishing on every shining star
I've been watching out of my window
Wondering where you are
Wondering where you are

My heart's my only treasure

Been saving it for your pleasure
Can't wait to give my heart to you
We'll walk this road together
That leads us to forever
I close my eyes and say a prayer you're out there somewhere

I've been waiting all of my life for you

I've been wishing on every shining star
I've been watching out of my window
Wondering where you are
Wondering where you are

Too many nights alone

And this house won't be a home
Until I'm with you

And I've been waiting all of my life for you

I've been wishing on every shining star

I've been waiting all of my life for you

I've been wishing on every shining star
I've been watching out of my window
Wondering where you are
Wondering where you are
Wondering where you are
Wondering where you are
I'm wondering where you are
Wondering where you are
I'm wondering where you are
Wondering where you are

Gali and His Heavenly Piano Music

Visitors of this blog couldn't fail to notice the music playing in the background.  The first one you'll hear is "Maybe" by Korean pianist, Yiruma.  If you have stayed long enough on this site, I am sure you must have heard of that piano version of the worship song "From the Inside Out."  It's one of my favorite songs.  And it seems, Gali is also a fan of Hillsongs' music.

Who is Gali?  The best way to get a glimpse of this man is by reading his bio in his own site Gali - Heaven's Sounds ... Here on Earth.  Don't freak out if you do not understand Spanish.  There's a button somewhere in the site that says "in English."  I find his story inspiring simply because he discovered his calling at a very early age.  Okay so maybe he was unaware of it at 5 years old.  But it seems that from that time his father bought a keyboard, the first time he set his fingers on it must have been a defining moment in his life.

I suppose, another way of getting to know this great musician, is of course by his music.  Here's Gali doing his cover of another worship song by Hillsongs.  Some of you may be familiar with it, but before you hit that play button, please scroll down, all the way to the bottom of this blog and press the pause button of my Mixpod, so that you won't be hearing two different music at the same time.

You might be wondering why I said music is his calling.  Quoting from his site, here's why I thought of that :
Within his entire musical success, GALÍ has never ceased to move away from the original purpose in music which is to positively affect the heart of the people through the talent God gave him as a child.
I couldn't think of a better way to express gratitude for the talents God gave us than by using it to glorify Him and bless others.  How I wish I were like that with my guitar...very passionate, focused, and intense for the craft.  I suppose it's not yet too late for me hahaha! Oh by the way, at the home page of Gali's site, you'll find this box that says "Musica Gratis."  It simply means, free music, so go on and get free samplers of his original music.  I downloaded some of it already and quite enjoying the sounds of heavenly music.

Mike Tompkins' One-man A Cappella

Mike Tompkins, A Capella, voice, mouth
Mike_Tompkins, originally uploaded by The Daring Librarian.
I have always admired people with great singing voices. I suppose it's my natural love for music and even if I can't sing as good as them, I know how to appreciate great talent.

However, to be able to do more than just singing all those voices is something else. I am sure most of you are familiar with those beat boxing sounds. How about the sound of guitar, piano, synthesizer, cymbal, hi-hat, and other musical instruments using your mouth and voice only? A group of people could probably do that, but what if it's just one man? Whoa!

Relaxing Harp Music

If you're having a stressful day and would like to relax or would simply want to chill out without spending much, listening to relaxing music can do that for you.  While it's great to sing along with familiar tunes, sometimes, it's cool to just listen to soft, flowing melodies.  Just close your eyes and be transported somewhere tranquil...a temporary escape from the hustle and bustle of the day.

When You Say Nothing at All

Oh I just stumbled on this in Facebook.  A friend posted this video and there I go again, playing it over and over and over.  I just love how Alison Krauss sings so effortlessly.  I didn't know she plays the violin.  Excellent!  When I go home later, I'll be playing this on my guitar for sure.  Got to print the chords! I'll have a singing spree once again.  I hope the neighbors won't mind my mini concert hahaha!

Yiruma's "Maybe"

This is a very uplifting music from Yiruma.  As always, his music moves me.  I guess words are not enough to describe how wonderful it is.  You need to listen...and feel it in you.  It's like looking at a a beautiful painting and seeing more than what the eyes tell you.  So I won't say much anymore except that I am again amazed and truly inspired because this music makes me think about the beauty of life.  So, I hope you will enjoy this as much as I did.

Yiruma's "River Flows in You"

A fellow writer mentioned this song to me.  Thankful that he did.  If there is such a thing as falling in love with a song, then I am totally smitten.  I can't get enough of listening to this particular song that I keep playing it over and over.  Yiruma is simply awesome.  Click here to check out this musical genius.  "River Flows in You"  is also called "Bella's Lullaby" in the movie "Twilight."  That figures why I never came across this one before because I didn't watch that vampire series.  Here's Yiruma doing the original on piano.

I've been searching YouTube for different covers of this song.  I also love this guitar version done by Sungha Jung, another Korean and a musical prodigy.

Am also looking for a good harp version, but unsuccessful at the moment.  I have requested one harpist in YouTube and I'm hoping he will oblige.  Will keep you posted.  Meanwhile, just enjoy this music.

Per-Olov Kindgren on Classical Guitar

I have always loved guitar playing, specially during my high school days. I'd play during music class or on church service at school. I've been into guitars since I was just ten but I stopped playing for quite sometime and as you know, my fingers are a bit rusty and has lost some of its dexterity because of lack of practice. Seeing this classical guitarist made me want to pursue guitar playing again but on a new level. But first, I need to buy a good classical guitar.

Mr. Kindgren's story and his passion for music has really inspired me to become a better guitar player.  I stumbled upon his site on You Tube.  I was actually looking for a cover of Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven."  Then I saw his rendition of the song.  Wow.  I wanted to play like that.  And I will...someday...
